Following his fellowship year, Matthew served as legislative staff for various state legislators. During this time, he worked on a broad array of policy issues, including technology, privacy, public safety, and labor. After his time in the Legislature, Matthew transitioned to government relations as the chief lobbyist for the California Correctional Peace Officers Association. Over the course of five years, he advocated for public safety policies while also addressing broader issues affecting public sector workers. His expertise in both legislative affairs and lobbying helped him secure meaningful legislative victories for the association during a particularly challenging time
In addition to his career in government relations, Matthew has over 20 years of service in the United States Army, currently serving as a Captain in the Army Reserves. His military service has provided him with strong leadership skills, discipline, and the ability to manage complex challenges, further complementing his work in public service and government relations.
